Project Groundwater was invited to participate in the South Oxford Flood Event, which attracted over 80 residents. Organised by Hinksey ward Labour councillors Anna Railton and Naomi Waite, this well-attended event comprised of a chaired panel discussion, followed by a Q&A session.

Your insurance questions answered

When we visit our pilot communities to speak with the community, one of the most frequent recurring topics is home insurance. Many are concerned that the release of our freely available groundwater flood risk maps will be used by insurers to increase home insurance premiums. We have been taking time to consider this topic and have been speaking to the experts at Flood Re to ensure we can share the best advice and knowledge on insurance and groundwater flooding.

Communities should prepare for groundwater flooding

Communities across the Berkshire Downs and Chiltern Hills should be prepared for groundwater flooding. Residents can check their risk on the government website. If you are in an area that is not covered by the Environment Agency's groundwater flood alerts but have previously experienced groundwater flooding, you should prepare for groundwater flooding over the coming weeks.

New Research Opportunity Released on the Mental Health Impacts of Flooding

We are launching a mental health project with Project Groundwater Greater Lincolnshire to specifically look at the mental health impacts of flooding. The project requires extensive academic input and direction, as well as guidance and knowledge from mental health practitioners, health economists, communities, and individuals previously affected by flooding.

Why aren't all our pilot communities covered by our new groundwater flood warning service?

Project Groundwater is delivering a new groundwater flood warning dashboard and alert system. The vision is that residents will be able to view live data about the water table and receive alerts if there is a risk of groundwater flooding. However, at this time, the system will only cover seven of our communities; Colnbrook with Poyle and Hinksey Park will not be covered. We explain why below.
